about

This song is about relationships, plain and simple. What makes it original to me, is that, lyrically speaking, I tried to touch on that bittersweet feeling we've all experienced at some point, in one relationship or another. So you're in love, but for whatever reason, you're at that point in the relationship where one or both of you have lost that "spark". In the back of your mind(s), you're afraid to admit that things would be better off if you'd just break up. However, the very thought of it makes you feel guilty, because you truly do love the other person, and can't bare the thought of living without them. On top of that, there's that nagging voice of pride that causes us to not want to be the "bad guy".
So the song is just about that emotional tug-of-war. Written in a format that is unnatural (verse, verse, verse, chorus), I tried to focus on the male perspective for the first 2/3rds of the song. He's sitting around after "she" walked out on another pointless argument, smoking cigarettes and reflecting on the relationship and how it got to be so dull and stale. Alone, he's humble, if even a little miserable, but this discord between the two has become so common-place, he's almost content, in a way, because he knows she'll be back. Whether it's on her own, or whether he chases her, only to repeat the cycle. Then towards the end of the song, the instrumental break symbolizes the change of emotions, and then we hear from the female perspective. She gets so far down the road after leaving, and then the guilt sets in. (Was I too mean? Did I slam the door too hard? Did I say something I'll regret? I love him so much, but I can't stand him, etc, etc) Maybe she's gone a week, maybe 20 minutes. I think the lyric that best represents the song, is "I love you but I don't want you to know. We'll make amends, then let the fighting begin, and find ourselves wishing we were lonely again. Don't you ever let me let you go, and i won't let you let me let you go." This sort of ties in what was mentioned earlier about the "both have gotten past the first year of a relationship where you're still getting to know each other, still getting comfortable, still trying to impress one another, still secretly using the bathroom haha....but now neither is happy, both are in love, neither wants to be the bad guy and end it. You're both just stuck. Why does this happen? Why can't our relationships remain aflame the way they are when we first recognize our love for that other person? Love...crazy, crazy love.

lyrics

It's so obvious you don't wanna leave,
Your childish ways serve proof to me
That you've finally grown tired of fighting sleep,
But you got your way,
No thanks to me.

I light up one more of your cigarettes,
and watch the end disappear, unlike my regrets
They've grown stale in this room and float with the smoke.
A heart left un-bled and the words we never spoke.

The sun went down like a led balloon
The morning crept up and before I knew
You were gone again, wondering where you'll go
Ain't it funny how hell always feels like home?

But darling love ain't gotta hurt
We're trying too hard just to make it work
but I guess I've no room to talk this way
ain't I the one who taught you how to walk away?

On Sunday morning I'll say a prayer for you,
This lazy wild world and those Monday blues
I love you but I don't want you to know
We'll make amends, then let the fighting begin
Find ourselves wishing we were lonely again
Don't you ever let me let you go.
I won't let you let me let you go
I won't let you let me let you go
....don't let me let go
